Welcome to Dr. Natalye Pearson's Psychological Services

There may be times in your life when you may feel overwhelmed, have difficulty managing strong emotions, experienced trauma, or struggled with developing a healthy sense of self. Maybe you’re a survivor of racist behavior in the workplace or realize that you are suffering with internalized oppression. When you’ve decided to seek help, finding a psychologist you feel comfortable with is as important as their skill and training. The quality of the relationship between therapist and client contributes greatly to a successful therapeutic outcome.

My specialties include racial identity development, racial trauma, trauma, depression, and anxiety. I assist clients in creating a healthy sense of self via radical acceptance and positive psychology techniques.

My Approach

As a licensed clinical psychologist with over 15 years of experience, working directly with clients to heal emotional wounds and reach their true potential is my first passion. It’s important to me that my clients feel seen and heard throughout the entire therapeutic process and I am committed to co-creating a unique and individualized course of therapy.
My second passion includes working in the community to provide psycho-education trainings on racial trauma, the myriad of ways it impacts our psychological wellbeing and radical self-care as the ultimate form of healing and resistance. I strongly believe that creating healing dialogues and psychological exploration regarding the traumatic impact of racism is essential to healing.
My work is informed by social justice theories, including the framework of inter-sectionality. If I’m so honored to have you as my client, you’ll find I utilize an integrated approach; a mix of gentle yet direct communication, mindfulness, astute attention to cultural dynamics including family systems, psychoeducation, skill-building using cognitive behavioral techniques, and of course explorative questions that help to uncover the emotional obstacles to your healing and progression in life.
However, our paths cross and we are able to work together, I look forward to joining you on your journey to courageously living a healthier life with greater fulfillment.

I conduct a comprehensive assessment of your needs and issues impacting your mental health. You and I co-create a treatment plan that fosters healing and growth.

Understanding the impact of Racial Trauma

Mental Health .01

Racial trauma can manifest as anxiety, depression, denial of our experience, shame, confusion and separation from the truth of who we really are. Often, clients report struggling with negative self-talk, and thoughts associated with internalized oppression.

Identity .02

Our racial identity development and acceptance is greatly impacted by racial trauma. This may feel like a lack of sense of belonging, confusion regarding if one’s behavior and speech are “Black (or insert your own ethnicity) enough.” Racial trauma can even lead to one rejecting of some cultural aspects of their ethnicity because it’s “too Black.”

Relationally .03

Like any other trauma, racial trauma can lower our capacity to connect with loved ones, friends, coworkers, and family members due to preoccupation or distracting thoughts related to racism and oppression. Painful experiences from the past and of course, presently, may create a desire to protect ourselves in our relationships, making it hard to be vulnerable with others and stuck in our defenses that no longer serve us.

04. Sense of Self-Worth

Feeling as if one does not deserve to be happy, take up space, have their needs met, or practice self-care are all prime examples of a low sense of self-worth. In regard to racial trauma, it is also compounded by experiences of prejudice, discrimination, and brutality that reinforce the idea that one is inferior based on their ethnicity and therefore is not worthy of the same quality of life and positive sense of self as others.

05. Occupationally

We earned the degree, got the dream job, yet somehow, we’re struggling with imposter syndrome. Or it’s hard to concentrate on projects, in meetings, and carry out one’s job responsibilities due to concerns of being unfairly judged by stereotypes and implicit bias, as opposed to the quality of their work.

06. Physical Health

It has been well documented that BIPOC have higher rates of diabetes, hypertension, stress, heart disease, stroke and many other medical diagnoses. Racial trauma can impede us from getting the proper care we need due to concern that we won’t get the same treatment as others. And the concern is not without merit.
